KAD Takes the Lead in Karagwe:
ETI Partners, the Karagwe Diocese (KAD), led by the courageous and compassionate Dr. Benson Bagonza, continues its fight to protect its people against COVID-19. There are 600,000 people in the districts of Karagwe, Kyerwa and Ngara – and every single one of them needs protection from COVID-19.
Nyakahanga Hospital is owned and managed primarily by KAD with the pledge of involvement by the Tanzanian government. As you know from past blogs (April 16, 17, 19), KAD has requested funds to purchase necessary PPE, masks, gowns, thermometers, disinfectants, sanitizers, hand-washing stations, respirators, ventilators and education for the hundreds of thousands of people in outlying areas. ETI donors heard the call and responded immediately. The incredible response from ETI donors resulted in funds being sent to Karagwe to accelerate preparations and treatment for COVID-19. The first wave of preparations included education on BBC Swahili and local radio. It also included distribution of sanitizer, 5,000 masks, gloves, gowns and thermometers for the hospital and dispensaries. ETI is working currently on securing unused Land Cruisers (from the tourism industry) to serve as ambulances in rural Karagwe.
So what does initial shipment & preparation look like in Karagwe? It looks like this.
