January 20, 2024. Yahoo! I could not be happier to be in Uganda – “The Pearl of Africa” and thrilled to be at the comfortable 2 Friends Hotel. The flights were happy ones also. KLM has always treated me well and this flight was exceptionally good. The flight staff were so kind to everyone and seemed to enjoy their work. The Captain had a good sense of humor and everyone seemed humble. The seatback screen showed our route nicely – although the KLM aircraft was about the size of Sudan (below).
The mother/daughter duo who sat next to me were eager to get to Uganda also to experience a week’s safari together focused on the mountain gorillas. I’ve never seen one in the wild and can’t help but think that would be a cool thing to do someday.
The Amsterdam to Entebbe route with a brief stop in Kigali was about 9 hours. The 35 minute puddle jump from Kigali (Rwanda) brought us to Entebbe where getting through customs was uneventful, and I was happily reunited with the very luggage I painstakingly packed just two days ago. Or was it yesterday?
I embraced the much warmer temps (74 F) and found my shuttle to the 2 Friends Hotel. As we were leaving Entebbe International Airport I looked back at the newly renovated entrance and was shocked. The beautiful architecture was amazingly impressive. This caught me by surprise and my friend driving informed me that this has been open only a couple of weeks! My photo isn’t great but the new entrance is. Take a look.
You (and I) can look forward to tomorrow’s blog not being about flights. We are graduating to ground transport. It’s 1:30AM here and I am ensconced, cleaned up and ready for a good night’s rest. It’s been a great day. Take care everybody. Good night.
