St Cloud State University Honors ETI CEO, Jan B. Hansen

St Cloud State University awarded Dr. Jan B. Hansen its 2018 Distinguished Alumni Award. Hansen received the award for the professional excellence demonstrated through co-founding Educate Tanzania, Inc (ETI) and the pioneering work in establishing Karagwe University College (KARUCO) in NW Tanzania.

KARUCO is focused on teaching new methods and technology in agriculture and sustainable agri-business, and opens its doors to its inaugural class on October 22, 2018 . KARUCO’s mission is “to transform rural agricultural communities and build a prosperous, just and sustainable society through education, entrepreneurship, environmental conservation and social justice”.

ETI is expanding its work currently to establish extensions of KARUCO through Rural Opportunity Centers (ROCs) which will focus on providing launchpads for KARUCO grads to create and grow businesses. The ROCs’ first foci include food processing, development of indoor market hubs and a farm implement storage and rental center.

Hansen received her award at the Donor Appreciation Gala on Oct 18, was honored at the Alumni Reception on October 19 and recognized again at the SCSU Huskies homecoming football game on October 20. These events were all part of SCSU’s sesquicentennial celebration.

SCSU President, Dr. Robbyn Wacker stated, “Congratulations Dr. Hansen and ETI. Your work is inspirational.
